Dr. Brad Swanson: Originally from Elsmore, a small town in Eastern Kansas, Dr. Swanson did his undergraduate studies at Allen County Community College with a Premed Degree.  He graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic, located in Chesterfield, Missouri, in August of 1980.  He interned as an Associate Dr. at the Emporia Chiropractic Center directly following graduation, and then opened his own clinic in Winfield Kansas in the fall of 1981.

When asked why he chose Chiropractic as his career, Dr. Swanson shared this:
”I was first introduced to chiropractic when I was 12.  When I was an elementary student, I developed a painful neck condition from a fall on a trampoline.  The pain in my neck was so intense that I couldn’t’ raise my head off the pillow for days.  I was afraid that I had broken my neck.  When the pain finally did subside, it gradually turned into severe headaches.  After months of taking medication for treatment of what they thought were migraine headaches, I became fed up with taking something that made me groggy, sleepy, and only covered up the symptoms.  My mother finally decided we should give a chiropractor a try.  After an exam, x-rays, and a series of adjustments, I got relief, and I was able to return to school regularly.  I began playing sports again which was my life at the time.  I was so amazed with the results that I decided that I wanted to become a chiropractor.  I wanted to be able to help others as I had been helped.”

Dr. Swanson chose to start his practice and raise his family in Winfield for a wide variety of reasons, including small town life and close proximity to a metro. Area.  But it was the community and people that made the decision to relocate here so easy.

Professional Accolades include:  Appointed by Governor Sebelius to Utilization Review Committee in 2001 to present, Member of the Kansas Chiropractic Board of Directors from 1983 – 1993, and is Board Qualified in Chiropractic Orthopedics in 1986.

Dr. Swanson has served and been a sponsor on numerous Civic and Community Committees, Board Elder at Trinity Lutheran Church, and most recently the Annual “Dog & Jog and Fun Run” benefiting the Cowley County Humane Society.  Dr. Swanson has also donated back to local School Booster Clubs over $30,000 from providing School Physicals.

Dr. Swanson and his wife Anne are the proud parents of Carie, Mandy, Doug and Shayla… and grandparents of Chelo, Clover, Harper, and Dalin.  And the tradition continues with Son Doug and Daughter Shayla graduating from the Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas Texas.  Dr. Swanson’s Favorite activities include golf, of course, and watching his grand kids grow and develop.

Dr. Doug Swanson: Raised in Winfield Kansas, Dr. Doug graduated from Winfield High school in 2001. He attended Southwestern College on a golf scholarship and finished his undergraduate degree and Doctor of Chiropractic from Parker College of Chiropractic in August 2008. Special areas of interest and study include nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, and muscle stability and balance.

The natural aspects of homeopathic health care were utilized during Dr. Doug’s childhood, which included chiropractic care. He vividly remembers that “Chiropractic care was used to treat the whole family for everything from ear infections to headaches to even the common flu. What wasn’t treatable by chiropractic, we knew to let nature run its course.” Dr. Doug knew that he could practice Chiropractic in anywhere, but specifically chose to come back to Winfield and join his father, Dr. Brad Swanson. “I really felt a desire to come back to Cowley County and bring some of the latest techniques, knowledge and opportunities for improved health to this area. My dad has always made sure he was on the cutting edge of new information, new research, and new techniques and protocol for his patients’ health. I’ve always respected that about my dad and knew that I wanted to be a part of what he has created here in Cowley County” Chiropractic care was used to treat the whole family for everything from ear infections to headaches. What wasn’t treatable by chiropractic, we knew to let nature run its course.”

Dr. Doug also noted that “Cowley County offered the small town environment that was quiet and far away from big city hassles like traffic… and when the time comes, it’ll be a great place to raise a family!” Working out is his personal stress reliever and cooking surprise dishes using everything fresh and NEVER anything out of a box is an interest as well.

Dr. Doug Swanson is a member of the Young Professionals Club in Winfield and is currently working with Cowley County Vision 20/20 to help create a program for kids to fight childhood obesity.
